Sparkly Sunglasses

I have previously posted about a new blog I have found. Last week I made some birthday cards and think its going to my new way of giving cards. I really enjoyed making them, and they were a really good card with the personal touch.

After the cards were such a success I decided to have another go at a DIY project. The idea again from the new blog, I decided to make embellished sunglasses. I wanted to make them on the cheap, but keep them looking great.

I bought a pair of sunglasses from Primark for a £1 (the start of the bargins):

I was able to use of the jewelery glue from the pack I bought:

I was quite aware that with lose glitter it was going to get messy, in preparation for this I covered my work surface in newspaper. However, I was left with a glitter shadow for the next few days, it was in my hair and all over the living room.

I applied a thick layer of glue to the top of the glasses frame, and sprinkled a heavy amount of glitter onto the glue. I applied enough to cover all the glue, and then some:

As you can see, there is an excess of glitter covering the frame but the lose bits brush off. I then covered the other side of the frame with glue and sprinkled over the glitter:

I left these to dry for two days, the pack of glue only advised leaving 24 hours, but I wanted to sure it was at its strongest. Once it has dried I used an old make up brush to wipe off the excess glitter, I then covered the glitter part of the frames in strong hair spray. The original blog advises using clear nail varnish, but that was for beads and I was worried I would ruin the nail varnish and that the glitter might fall off. Once I am at the bottom of a nail varnish I might give it ago on a small portion.

Now all cleaned up the final product:
