Yesterday I was chuffed when I was very close to finishing my first complete gem case. I spent a little while filling out the background and the whole thing was really starting to be pulled together.
Instead of using the epoxy glue I decided to use super glue, this was because the background which I was filling in was more fiddly and the direct application of glue was easier than trying to applying glue using a selection of tools.
At first it was all going great, it was easy to put on the background gems it was all fitting in well, and looking good. I decided to leave it to set with about 3/4 of the background filled in.
When I woke up this morning I checked on the case and areas where I had used the super glue had gone white in a sort of crust. I managed to pick a little bit off, and using nail varnish remover removed a little more, but it was still ruined. Bare in mind it has taken me two-three weeks and a lot of gems to get this far. On the very edge of tears I turned to the internet to looks for ways to remove super glue and its stains. The case is currently soaked in nail varnish remover, wrapped in damp (soapy water) kitchen roll and then wrapped in cling film to keep it wet.
The aim of this (apparently) is to get the glue very soft so it can be peeled off. However I have to leave the case wrapped in its many concoctions for 3-4 hours, I keep wanting to have a teak to see if it is soft yet so I can start peeling the bits off.
If this doesn't work I will be taking a visit to my local DIY shop and hope they have some sort of spray which either removes the stains of glue or dissolves the glue which does mean I will have to start all over again....
Any ideas or tips of how to get rid of super glue please let me know, until then I am anti super glue.
